Pickleball is currently the fastest growing sport in the country and is coming soon to CCNC. What is pickleball? Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The sport combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Pickleball is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.
Once permitting was approved by the Village of Pinehurst, construction on four state-of-the art pickleball courts began in earnest in late February of 2020. As soon as the initial excavation was completed, the process of building the retaining walls began. As these walls are completed, the surface will be prepped and compacted to standards. Six inches of stone and 3 inches of asphalt will then comprise the playing surface.
A 30-day curing period for the asphalt is required before the court surface can be painted. Fencing and windscreens complete the project and then the courts will be ready for play. The playing surface construction can take up to three months to complete. Howard B. Jones of McClellanville, SC is our pickleball court contractor. The anticipated completion and grand opening is mid-summer of 2020.
Pickleball is a fun, engaging sport with a quick learning curve. Tennis players will adapt easily, once they learn the different type of scoring system. We are really looking forward to this great addition to CCNC. We hope you and your families will enjoy!
